Torque is only an indirect indication of tension. Use a correctly sized Allen wrench and a 2nd open ended wrench to evenly tension the fasteners on the drop guards.
Improperly installing, Over Tightening, or using the wrong size tools could, and probably will, cause the guards to be installed improperly and will cause screws to strip or possibly break. Place the rear guards on the Harley OEM saddle bag bars, and hand tighten the fasteners with even tension until securely secured. Gaskets may need to be trimmed to fit if necessary.Įnsure the guard is not loose before each and every ride and after every drop when training.Īfter the Drop Guards are installed the motorcycle will need to be gently laid on its side to ensure the impact will occur in the correct area of the guards in order to ensure the guards are positioned to protect as intended and without damaging the fasteners. Use a correctly sized Allen wrench and a 2nd open ended wrench to evenly tension the fasteners on the drop guards without over tightening. Place the guards on the Harley OEM engine guard, and hand tighten the fasteners with even tension until hand tight. Impact should occur on the area under and below the strap area of the guards and should not cause damage to the fasteners. The guards should be placed evenly on each side of the motorcycle to ensure proper function and visual appearance. Please do not force the drop guards onto the engine guard, saddle bag bars, or primary cover. The guards should go on easily, if they don't something is and will go wrong (DO NOT CONTINUE WITH INSTALLATION).
